Ephraim is of the Norwegian Ethnic heritage and of the Moravian culture. It was founded by a Moravian religious community in 1853. There are 5 historic buildings 1858 Moravian Church, 1880 Pioneer Schoolhouse, 1858 Anderson Store & Warehouse, 1880 Anderson barn plus an additional eight village homes which are all still in use today.
Ephraim had the first fire truck in Northern Door County that was motorized. It is a 1934 Ford which is still owned by the village. The old firehouse was built in 1936. A new fire station was built in 1990.
Ephraim is a scenic village. There is a village Beach, Wetland Preserve, the Firehouse Marina, Anderson Dock Marina, Harborside Park, Village Hall & Library Monument Park, Visitors Center, Village Offices, Fire Departments, Tennis Courts, Playground, Walking Path, Ephraim Preserve at Anderson Pond, and the Old Ephraim Firehouse.
