The Township of Jacksonport was officially organized in March of 1869. The first white man arrived around 1850. The Potawatomi Indians lived in their village in the Hibbard’s Creek area many years prior to 1850.
The logging and the commercial fishing attracted the first settlers to the Jacksonport area in the 1870’s.
Jacksonsport had many other settlers from various other countries such as the Germans, Austrians, English, Scotch, French Canadians, etc…
There were 862 residents by 1885. By 1890, the original industries of lumbering and commercial fishing industries were moving out and the area was changing to agricultural. By the 1900’s, Jacksonport was discovered as a great vacation spot.
Jacksonport is a quiet community with only 750 year round residents. At Whitefish Dunes State Park and Cave Point County Park you can enjoy peaceful hiking. You can enjoy the sounds and beauty of the waves crashing into the rocky shore below. You can also enjoy the view of the tallest sand dunes in the state of Wisconsin. The scenery on the quiet roads within the Parks are beautiful for a peaceful day of biking.
